Children of Ebenezer,
We offer Godly Play®, our Sunday School program, to meet concurrently with Sunday morning Worship. The children will start in the Sanctuary with their families at 9:30 and then will be dismissed to their teacher after the Children’s Message to go to the Godly Play Room.
What is Godly Play? Let me tell you!
Godly Play is a classroom just for YOU. It is made for you, every story in the room is for you, and all the fun arts and crafts materials are for, you guessed it, YOU!
When you come to Godly Play, we start by lining up outside the classroom. There will be a door person to greet you and then to ask you a very important question, “Are you ready for Godly Play?” If you feel ready, you say yes and head on in, if you are not ready the door person can help you get ready. When you enter the Godly Play room, there will be a storyteller sitting on the circle rug inviting you to come sit around the rug with them. As our circle forms, we are ready to get started.
The storyteller will walk to where the story for the day is; it is always fun to try to guess where they are going to go and what could be in the box or basket they pick. Then we sit comfortably and get ready to listen to God’s stories told in an AMAZING way. When we are done, we will wonder about the story together. I wonder what your favorite part of the story will be or what was special for you? We will wonder a LOT, and it is a great chance to dig deeper into God’s stories. FUN FACT: There are NO wrong answers in Godly Play. We are all there to learn and it is your space. After we wonder, you get to choose what your work will be. Clay, paints, paper, markers, pencils, crayons, and all different kinds of arts and crafts materials are available, so you can choose how you learn best to process the story we just heard. If those types of things do not really work for you, that is okay! You can choose to work with the story we just heard or with another story in the room that you heard a different day. When we are finished with work time we will clean up and come back together around the rug for prayer and feast. This is our chance to talk about things coming up or something exciting that happened to you that you would like to share.
When we are all done, we say goodbye until next week when we will hear a new story and learn in a new way together—all over again. I cannot explain how cool this is, so I am just going to show you! I hope you will come, invite your friends, and learn how much God loves every one of us.
